and what did i spend my first weekend not shackled to a term paper or attending a funeral doing?

sitting on my posterior-thats what.

on friday night i stepped on a piece of pointy wood in my basement. two days later and my foot is still bright red and too swollen to fit in a sneaker.

boo!

so i made this crummy thing:

its a stupid little purse thingy for my mommy, made at her request and to her specifications....

and now i cut my finger on the blender...

i think someone should just lock me in a tower (preferably full of yarn) some days....

Today I got this cute little teapot I ordered in the mail. It's the Bodum Assam Tea Press. You put loose tea in the infuser chamber in the center. When the tea is finished brewing you push that plunger down. It pushes the soggy tea into the bottom of the chamber where there are no holes which stops the brewing process and prevents bitter tea! Maybe I'm not finished reading tea leaves- I see a new tea cozy in my near future....

I also got a new old bike yestarday at a police auction. It needs a little work, but you can't beat the price: $1!

Now all I have to do is finish my last paper...grr.....

I still haven't finished a single paper. The staring at the screen and writing until my brain feels like its melted to the side of my head thing I've got going here isn't working too well. So instead, I'm using a new system. Behold:

I am in term paper hell. And its my own fault. I left them for the last second. And then my uncle died. Its been such a nightmare these last couple days. But now things are calming down and I'm realizing that I have to write two 8 pagers and a 5 pager to be turned in on Thursday. No time for knitting. No time for sleeping.

and the last thing I have time for is posting pictures of a half-eaten Dark Mark birthday cake....

Since I finished the Fugl jacket, I can't seem to get into anything else. I have a couple of socks going. And a Cardigan for Arwen in a yarn I don't really like so much...

Nothing feels compelling.

I can't wait for Charmed Knits. I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of great patterns in there. And its hard for anything Potter-inspired to not interest me...

Very recently I finished the Fugl jacket from Lopi 25. Well, almost finished. I've sewn the zipper in twice so far. With craptacular results. When I get home from work tomorrow I'll give it another go. We shall see...

As this is a knitting blog, I suppose I should make with the knits...

So far these have been called platypus, hippocrates, pomagrantes, hippopotamus, and parabolas by Justin.

The first pomatomus:

I'm actually using the yarn called for in the pattern because I actually had two skeins of it lying around. It's Shelridge Soft Touch Ultra that I got at Rhinebeck but had no real plans for it. Well, until now...

It is my first time knitting anything lacey. I don't know how much I like it. I don't think I like ther person it makes me... I dropped a stitch today. I don't really understand how this pattern is working so I don't know what the yarn is doing or how to fix it when I mess up. So I tried to pick it up but made an ugly mess. After about 20 minutes of me wondering what I had managed to do to my poor sock, I decided enough was enough and that I'd unravel a few rows until the mistake was gone. All in all it took me an hour to fix a dropped stitch. Poor Justin stopped what he was doing to see what was making me whimper so and I hissed that he had to stop looking at me...

Also in progress is this sweater. It's the Nordic Texture Pullover from Sweaters For A Lifetime. The yarn is Patton's Classic Merino.

And last Judy's Grandmother's Baby Sweater from Knit Cafe. The yarn is Patons SWS which actually contains soy. Since the yarn is so much bigger I used size 9 needles and had to do a bunch of math, which I can't stand. I really like it so far. No sleeves yet though.

This is a reversable sweater, so I use the terms front and back usely.
Now all I need is a baby to actually go in it!

Rhinebeck

I didn't really plan on going but on Saturday night my mom suggested we get in the car and go. I've never been and from what I've heard this is like knitter's Christmas, birthday, and Halloween all rolled into one.

The ride up was ok. We got lost a couple times...

We figured we'd find lodging when we got there. BAD IDEA!!! Never attempt this if you ever go...every single hotel, motel, motor lodge and inn for probably 40 miles around was booked solid. Long (long, long...) story short, we ended up sleeping in our car, wrapped i all our woolen wares...

At least the festival didn't dissapoint. There was anything you could imagine and more...People of all ages, sweaters of all colors...

And the yarn....Oh, the yarn. Skeins of brightly colored silk, the softest baby alpaca, rainbows of sock yarns...I was in complete sensory overload...

And I learned how to spin!

Definitely worth sleeping in the car...
